A BABY girl born on Christmas Day was the best gift a Weymouth family could have wished for.

Adorable Kate Holly Robinson was born at 12.08am at Dorset County Hospital (DCH) on Wednesday, December 25, weighing a very healthy eight pounds ten ounces.

Proud parents Jennifer Gilmour and Steve Robinson - and big sister Holly Robinson - were beaming with smiles when the Echo visited the DCH maternity ward on Boxing Day.

Mum Jennifer, 31, explained that midwives had attempted to induce labour a few days previously, after growing concerned that baby Kate wasn't moving.

They decided to perform a caesarean section when, after a painful few days for Jennifer, Kate still hadn't made an appearance by Christmas Eve.

"I was being monitored daily throughout last week," she said. "They thought Kate was quite big, and so they thought it would be safest to whip her out early."

"She's the best Christmas present ever."

Christmas is definitely a magical time of year for the family, because Steve's daughter Holly, aged nine, also has a festive birthday, on December 21.

Steve and Jennifer had their first date on Christmas Eve two years ago - and Steve proposed a year later on Christmas Eve 2018.

Jennifer said: "We both worked at the same restaurant - we were at work at the time when he proposed during service.

"I remember saying at the time; 'I don't know how we're going to top this off next year.

"I'll never say that again!"

Kate's big sister Holly said: "Kate gives really good cuddles - she only cried once when she woke up, but she's so sweet. I'm really happy to have a baby sister."

Dad Steve, 36, added: "She's such a little critter. Before the birth we were worried because the baby wasn't moving at all - we'd been poking and prodding her - but as soon as Jenny was hooked up to the monitor, within ten seconds Kate would start kicking."

"She's got a little attitude already and she's barely 24 hours old!"
