Remembrance Sunday this year was very well supported by the public.

As usual the service and the parade drew a large crowd of onlookers, but noticeably more this year, and what would seem to be many younger members of the community.

It was an honour to be able to take part in the procession, and to receive a standing ovation en-route with all those who took part.

Our association later had Sunday lunch and a chat after.

I personally was thinking of returning home, as time was getting on, when I looked across the harbour and saw The Royal Oak bedecked with a Union Flag and giant poppies.

So as I have had connections with this particular hostelry, I ventured in. It was very crowded, and there were a lot of Naval personnel enjoying the entertainment. It was the best evening I have personally been involved in in many a year.

All praise must go to the management for putting on a show that was a worthy tribute to our men in arms.
