The fire service has issued a warning for people to not try and fight fires themselves, after a man attempted to extinguish a blaze in his car.
At about 12pm it was reported that a car was on fire at a Tesco on Portland earlier today.
A crew from Portland Fire Station was sent out to help extinguish the fire but when they arrived, the owner of the car had apparently managed to put out most of the flames using liquids in his car.
Firefighters helped by damping down the engine bay and investigating the source of the blaze.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to warn you of hazards involved in fighting fires yourselves and remind you to please consider your own health in situations like this.
"Please retreat to safety and call 999."
