Firefighters dealt with a rather unpleasant situation yesterday after a mountain of manure caught fire.
At about 12.15pm yesterday, fire control received reports of a large fire in the open near Higher Came in Dorchester.
Two crews from Dorchester were sent to tackle the blaze, supported by a crew from Beaminster and a water carrier from Bridport.
On arrival firefighters found approximately 73 tonnes of manure on fire and used hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire and prevent spreading to nearby standing crops.
The crews remained on scene damping down the area until 3pm.
