THE Weymouth Conger Championship was held over three days in very stormy conditions.

Many boats opted to fish close inshore and still achieved excellent results which just goes to show how prolific coastal waters around Weymouth Bay and Portland can be.

Seventy-five dedicated conger anglers from around the country entered the competition and although the high seas forced one boat to return early on the third day, the rest however, persevered.

This is a championship growing in esteem, and more and more anglers are expected to enter next year.

The total number of conger eels caught in three days' fishing was 537 and with only 10 brought in for official weighing, the rest were returned alive.

The organisers wish to express a special thank you to the sponsors: Quayside Fuels, Sailors Return Inn, Fladen Tackle and Weymouth Angling Centre.
