Unlock some of Dorset’s rare secrets with a weekend Festival of Discovery.

Walks, family events, exhibitions and talks are just some of the free events taking place from June 15 to 24 organised for people to explore the South Dorset Ridgeway.

Experts say the landscape between Dorchester and Weymouth is as important as Stonehenge and Avebury due to the scale of ancient sites. It also offers amazing wildlife, great views and fascinating folklore.

James Sharpe, landscape partnership manager, said: “I think locals and visitors alike are in for a treat. From dusk walks to find the illusive Nightjar, wild stories, or ‘have a go’ practical skills, to a vintage film night from Windrose Media Trust, it’s a packed programme to please all tastes and ages. And it’s all free.”

The events are designed for everyone, whether they already know a lot about the South Dorset Ridgeway, or nothing at all.

The South Dorset Ridgeway Landscape Partnership is made up of fourteen local organisations, led by the Dorset AONB with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. For the past five years the Partnership have been providing all sorts of opportunities for local people to better access, enjoy, learn about and play a more active role in caring for this very special place.

This is the last summer in the partnership’s programme of activities. All events are free, but booking is essential, places are limited and will book up very fast.
