The Jurassic Coast Trust has put together the perfect guide to exploring the area's beaches with your pet in tow.
Dogs are also allowed on the entire South West Coast Path and there many stunning coastal walks you can enjoy together. Be sure to look after your dog’s safety, especially near cliff edges.

Bridport Area
- Burton Bradstock
Burton Bradstock Beach-no dogs between May 1 and September 30, except on East Beach.
- Cogden Beach, Burton Bradstock
Dogs welcome at all times
- Eype Beach
Dogs welcome at all times
- Seatown
No dogs at any time
- West Bay
No dogs between May 1 and October 1 except in the port area where they must stay on a lead.
Charmouth and Lyme Regis Area
- Charmouth – East Beach
No dogs between 10am – 6pm during July and August
- Charmouth – West Beach
No dogs between May 1 and September 30, as far as the bridge at the end of the prom, from which point dogs are allowed on leads westwards towards Lyme Regis.
- Lyme Regis – Main Beach
Between April 1 and October 31 no dogs on Lyme Regis’s front beach and on dog leads for the rest of year.
- Lyme Regis – Monmouth Beach, Cobb Gate and East Beach
Dogs welcome at all times.
East Devon Area
- Budleigh Salterton
Dogs are banned from the main beach from May 1 to September 30 but are welcome on the beach adjacent to the Lime Kiln car park in the east and at Steamer Steps to the west all year.
- Beer
No dogs on west side of the beach between May 1 – September 30. The East beach has a “dogs on leads” policy but this is only as far as the last beach hut and down to the high tide line.
- Exmouth
Dogs are allowed on the whole beach from September 30 to May 1. They are allowed on the last stretch of beach at the very end of Queens Drive all year round. There are lots of signposts to tell you which part it is.
- Seaton
No dogs between May 1 – September 30 on the main beach (between Castle Hill and River Axe)
- Sidmouth
Dogs are welcome all year on a small area at the east end of the beach but are not permitted on the main beach between the May 1 and the September 30.
Purbeck Area
Dogs welcome at all times
- Kimmeridge
Dogs welcome at all times
Dogs welcome at all times
- Man O’ War Cove
Dogs welcome at all times
- Studland
Dogs are welcome all year but from May 1 to September 30 they must be kept on a two metre lead on all beaches.
- Swanage
No Dogs from May 1 to September 30 on the main beach, but dogs are welcome to use Monkey Beach which is located by the old stone quay, close to the pier.
- Worbarrow Bay
Dogs welcome at all times
Weymouth and Portland Area
- Abbotsbury – Chesil Bank & Fleet Lagoon Nature Reserve
