MARKING more than 60 years of history, past pupils and staff of Damers First School are being asked to share their memories and memorabilia of their time in the classroom.
As reported in the Echo, the school will be moving to a shiny new building in Poundbury around Easter after 62 years on the site in Dorchester.
To celebrate the school's vast and exciting history an exhibition date has now been set for Saturday, March 4 from 11am to 1pm.
Ellie Goodridge, assistant headteacher at Damers First School, said: "The exhibition is open to all past pupils and staff. We have already had more than 100 ticket requests from past pupils but would love some old staff to come along too.
"We are still asking for memorabilia relating to the school's history to form part of the exhibition.
"We are hoping someone might have an old 'brown school' - as it was known - uniform tucked away and we really want to see the old school mural that depicted a bloody battle at Maiden Castle. The mural was removed in the 80s as it was deemed too graphic and frightening for children by then.
"We have a black and white slightly obscured picture of it but would love to see the whole piece in colour.
"We are also interested if anyone knows anything of a time capsule buried on the site and where we might find it."
Headteacher Catherine Smith added: "Current staff and children are incredibly excited to hear more stories of Damers' history on March 4. We have had a great response so far and look forward to sharing the first part of our farewell to our much loved current home with some old friends."
Damers First School has been on the current site since 1955. On clearing the school loft staff discovered more of the school's past an abacus.
Anyone who would like to share any past photos or memorabilia of the school is asked to email it to history@damers.dorset.sch.uk, call 01305 264924 or pop into the school and staff can photocopy it.
Tickets can be booked using the email, history@damers.dorset.sch.uk, stating your name and the years you attended the school or again you can pop in to or ring the school.
