A TEAM of fundraisers landed a hole in one when they raised more than £700 with a golfing event.

The Two Club Golf Challenge was held at Wessex Golf Centre in Weymouth and organised by Mark Blunden, of Poundbury company Futurum Renewable Energy Services.

This was the second year of the event and 35 golfers took part, raising a total of £711.30 for children's hospice charity Julia's House, which is based in Dorset.

Those taking part in the challenge were tasked with completing the nine holes at the centre using only two clubs and without a putter.

There was also a 'nearest the pin' challenge at the sixth hole, which was made more difficult than usual by the high winds on the day.

The winners on the day were Terry Hawkins for non-handicappers and Steve Hanks for those with a club handicap.

Both winners chose to donate their prize money to Julia's House.

After the event, the group of fundraisers travelled to The Balti House in Commercial Road for a raffle and prize-giving, which added further funds to the total pot.

Hannah Robinson from the community fundraising team at Julia's House, said: "That’s a fantastic amount. Well done to all involved who took part for what was a very enjoyable event."

Organiser Mark Blunden said that he hopes the success of the Two Club Golf Challenge in Weymouth will lead to other events being held across the region to raise money for Julia's House as they build their new hospice in Devizes, Wiltshire.

John Scott, CEO of Futurum Renewable Energy Services, said: "We are very pleased to support this worthwhile cause and will run the event again next year."

The Julia's House hospice is located in Corfe Mullen and the charity provides valuable respite care to children across Dorset and Wiltshire, both at the hospice itself and in their own homes.

The charity relies on donations for 95 per cent of the money it needs to provide care to around 100 children and their families.
