A FLEET of DeLorean cars made famous in the Back to the Future films had jaws dropping as they toured round Dorset.

More than a dozen of the iconic cars with their gull wing doors came together at the Bovington Tank Museum on Saturday as the DeLorean Owners Club rolled into the county.

Treasurer of the club Claire Usher said DeLorean owners travelled from as far as Manchester, Nottinghamshire and Kent to attend the event and they all thoroughly enjoyed their time in Dorset, not least because of the fantastic weather they enjoyed during their trip.

After meeting at the Tank Museum and getting many admiring glances from passers-by, the club members enjoyed a tour of the facility.

Claire said: “We had a fantastic time and we had a very interesting tour around the museum as well, it’s a fascinating place to visit.”

Following their stop at the museum, the DeLorean owners made their way down to Lulworth Cove, turning people’s heads as they wound their way through the villages of Purbeck.

Claire said: “We all drove off down to Lulworth Cove and caused a bit of a stir down there.

“People have just been amazed and everybody has been doing a double take as we drive through these little villages.

“I think we have had a few jaws dropping.”

On Sunday the motorists made their way to Kingston Lacy to enjoy more sunshine.

Claire said: “We have had fantastic weather, I think this is the first club weekend when we have had wall to wall good weather.

“We have tried to fit in as much as we can while we are down here.”

There were only 9,000 DeLoreans ever made and only around 6,500 have survived.

The UK owners club meets regularly and has been collecting money for Parkinsons UK as Back to the Future star Michael J Fox has the condition.

Treasurer Claire said she wanted to thank everyone who welcomed the club to Dorset, particularly the Purbeck House Hotel in Swanage for putting them up for the night.
