TWO of the victims seriously injured in Friday’s horror smash in North Dorset were young children – one of them a six-month-old baby girl, police have confirmed.

While the driver of the BMW involved, a 30-year-old Poole man, continues to fight for life in Southampton General Hospital, details of his passengers and the casualty from the other vehicle have started to emerge.

As well as the baby, who was treated at Poole Hospital, a five-year-old boy, also from Poole, was injured seriously, police say.

A woman, aged 28, who was travelling in the silver BMW when it collided with a blue Land Rover Freelander on the A350 near Iwerne Minster on Friday evening, is also in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, a fifth person travelling in the BMW, a 24-year-old Poole man, is said to have sustained only slight injuries.

The driver of the Land Rover, a 51-year-old man from Wiltshire, is also in hospital with serious injuries.

Both the air ambulance and the police helicopter attended the scene and the BMW driver was airlifted to Southampton.

Dorset Police sergeant Stuart Pitman said: “I’d like to appeal to any witnesses who either saw the BMW or the Land Rover Freelander driving at any time in the lead up to, or the actual collision, to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Emergency services were called to the crash scene at 7.25pm.
