A WEYMOUTH post office branch is being modernised and will be open for longer.
Abbotsbury Road Post Office, which is within the Londis store, is being transformed into a new style open plan branch.
As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend opening hours, the refurbished branch will have three serving positions. One will be a traditional screened position, while the other two will be serving points at the retail counter where customers can do most Post Office and retail transactions.
Offering services at the retail counter means customers can access services during shop opening hours from 6.30am to 9.30pm, Monday to Sunday. In all, opening hours will be extended by 51 hours and 30 minutes a week.
The post office will be closed on Monday, March 10 at 5.30pm for refurbishment work and will reopen on Friday, March 14 from 1pm. The closure does not affect the Londis store.
Customers can use alternative branches at Charlestown or Lodmoor Hill, or the central branch in the town centre.
Post Office area manager, Adrian Skinner, said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to the people around Abbotsbury Road and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
