COMMUNITY campaigners have criticised plans put in place while a Dorset post office is shut for a week.
Bridport Post Office will be closed for refurbishment from February 12 and due to re-open on February 21.
Dorset Community Action welcomes the change, which will see the creation of seven serving counters, but says the suggestion of customers using offices at Bradpole or Lyme Regis while Bridport is closed is ‘unreasonable’.
DCA’s Simon Thompson says in a letter to Post Office bosses: “You have recently agreed to provide free transport from Sherborne to Yeovil while the town’s post office is being refurbished. So in the interests of consistency, DCA would therefore kindly request that a similar free bus service is provided for Bridport customers.”
A Post Office spokesman said: “We were unaware of a request for a temporary bus service during the refurbishment of Bridport Post Office. We will give it due consideration.”
