FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze that gripped part of Wareham forest.
Crews from Wareham were called to Sugar Hill, near the Silent Woman Inn, just before 10am this morning.
Dorset Fire and Rescue were alerted to the blaze, which gripped half a hectare of heath and small trees, after several calls from members of the public.
Dorset Police are investigating the incident but it is not believed to be a crime.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police received a call reporting a fire at Wareham Forest on Bere Road, Coldharbour.
“Initial reports stated the blaze could have been started deliberately.
“It now appears the incident is not a crime but follow up enquiries will be carried out by Dorset Police.”
