A PORTLAND post office will be moved, it has been confirmed.
Post Office bosses say the Fortuneswell branch will move from its current premises and be incorporated into The Paper Shop down the road.
It comes after attempts by retiring postmistress Kay Schofield to sell the business.
Relocating it to The Paper Shop secures its future and allows Mrs Schofield to sell the historic building which currently houses the branch.
The current office at 79 Fortuneswell will close on Monday, April 29 at 5.30pm and the new branch will reopen the following day at the newsagents at 95-99 Fortuneswell.
The new branch will be open a lot longer with opening hours extended by 58 hours a week. It is part of a modernisation plan by the Post Office to convert branches to a new open-plan style format.
Post Office Regional Network manager for Wales and West of England Tony Jones said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Portland and we are confident that this new modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
Opening hours at the branch will be Monday to Saturday, 5am to 8pm, and Sunday, 6am to 4pm.
