A GROUP of mums are hoping to get children bopping at their new dance class.
The four local mothers have teamed up to create Fizzy Boppers at Maiden Newton village hall.
The weekly high energy music and dance class for children aged five and under promises a fun way to get youngsters into a variety of dance styles.
Julia Dodds, Georgie Easton and Kim Sibley, all from Maiden Newton, came up with the idea along with Cattistock resident Kelly Critchell.
Mrs Dodds, 31, said they all had young children themselves and decided to set up something that they felt would provide a new way to get youngsters dancing and get them active. She said: “We had 35 children in our first week and we have had really good feedback.
“Basically we are all mothers of young children ourselves and felt it was important for children to have the opportunity to enjoy lots of varied music and feed their interest in music and dancing in creative and varied ways.”
The youngsters will bop to a different musical style each term, with the first term focussing on Salsa.
The four mums have received support from local organisations in the village and also held a successful coffee morning in Cattistock to raise funds.
As a result they have obtained some great props and are able to run the sessions, which run from 10am to 11am on Thursdays, for just £2.50 per family and at the end parents can enjoy coffee and biscuits while the youngsters play with toys.
So as well as being an enjoyable way for children to get active and make friends, the group also offers parents the chance to socialise.
There is no need to pre-book for any sessions as it is all done on a pay as you go basis.
Mrs Dodds said: “We have tried to keep it affordable.”
All children must be accompanied and even children who are not yet able to walk can take part in a baby carrier.
