Bank holiday weekend is here, and a mixed bag of weather is expected.

The best day this weekend is Saturday with sunshine all day - with rain expected at some point tomorrow and on Monday.

We have put together a list of fun activities and festivals going on across the weekend to enjoy.

Dorset Hot Air Balloon Festival – Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5

The inaugural Dorset Hot Air Balloon Festival finally gets underway at the Dorchester Showground and there are still tickets available.

Festivalgoers will be able to take rides in the hot air balloons and monster trucks as well as watch BMX stunt shows.

There will also be a local traders' market and plenty of food and drink available.

Live bands will also be performing as afternoon turns into evening as the balloons take to the skies over Dorchester.

Teddy Rocks – Friday, May 3, Saturday May 4 and Sunday, May 5

Teddy Rocks Festival got underway on Friday as it returns to Charisworth Farm, near Blandford.

More than 100 acts are performing over eight stages including Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, and Five - as well as renowned cover bands such as Guns 2 Roses, Q2: The Very Best of Queen, Foo Forgers, and The Ed Sheeran Experience.

Barry from Eastenders (Shaun Williamson) will also be there with a special ‘Barrioke’ performance as well as Dick and Dom and other family entertainment.

The festival helps raise money for charity, including Young Lives vs Cancer.

Since being set up in 2011, the event has raised more than £500,000 for charity.

Tickets are still available for Saturday and Sunday. 

Dorset Echo: Nothe Fort

Nothe Fort – Saturday, May 4, Sunday May 5, and Monday, May 6

Possibly Weymouth’s best known attraction, Nothe Fort is going back in time over this bank holiday weekend.

The fort is transforming itself back to the Victorian Era.

On Saturday, from 10.30am until 1pm there will be an opportunity for kids  to play traditional Victorian toys and games and drop into a Victorian classroom and experience how they would have been disciplined.

On Sunday, there will be Punch & Judy show at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm. as well toys, games and the classroom experience.

And on Monday, there will also the opportunity to listen to the story of the Nothe Fort Bugle Boy on the atmospheric Victorian gundeck at 11am, 12pm and 1.30pm.

All of these activities are free with a general admission ticket or annual passes.

Quayside Festival – Saturday, May 4 and Sunday May 5

Situated next door to Weymouth’s picturesque harbour, Rendezvous is once again putting on its free Quayside festival.

Bands will be playing from 12pm until 10pm on both days and is a great place to sit with a cider (or two) and enjoy some live music.

On Saturday music revellers will be treated to performances from Lee Rasdall-Dave, Fleur & Toby, Milk & Two, Captains Beard, Sunstroke Band, Someday Soon, Static Flight, Big Town Boppers and Jimbo vs Damian will round off the day.

On Sunday the bands playing are Kaia Viera, Chris Edwards, Tom Clements Duo, Peter Cooley Duo, King Vegas Trio, Surfin Birds, Sugar Rush, Under the Carousel, with Iron Hide topping the bill.

Shaftesbury Feastival - Sunday May 5 

This food festival will see more than 150 traders set up at on the High Street and Park walk from 10am until 5pm on Sunday. 

The event will include cookery demonstrations, forgaing walks with Matserchef winner Matt Follas, book signings, literary events and pop up events in various premises across Shaftesbury

There will be plenty of food for palettes on offer at the food festival leaving you salivating for more. 

The annual Cheese Run on Gold Hill will also be taking place. The event is a tribute to the hundreds of years that cheese has been produced in Blackmore Vale.

Birds of Prey Experience at Mapperton Estate - Sunday May 5

In collaboration with Xtreme Falconery, the country estate is hosting the Bird of Prey Experience from 11am to12.30pm

The experience will be majestic eagles on display and even an opportunity to take a photo with one of the magnificent creatures.

There will also be a Q&A about the birds.

A ticket to the event will also include access to the grounds of Mapperton Estate

Track and Wheels  (Tank Museum) – Monday, May 6

The Tank Museum is hosting a day of daring mountain bike displays and supercars in a Tracks and Wheels event on Bank Holiday Monday.

Visitors to the museum in Bovington will get to witness cycling feats from the Urban Display stunt team as well as Sporting Bears, a group of classic and sports car enthusiasts who will showcase their collection.

There will also be a chance to ride in a supercar by donating to the Sporting Bears Motor Club.

On top of the displays, visitors will get the chance to discover how soldiers used bicycles during the Great War with object handling and a dress-up session, and the Southern Armour Group will be demonstrating large-scale remote-controlled tanks and military vehicles.

Visitors can also explore the museum and travel through 100 years of armoured warfare with 300 tanks, interactives, objects, and moving human stories.
